21st Century Learning Environment / Curriculum

Vision Statement:

In order to actively participate in a growing global environment, West Virginia will embrace, value and utilize technology to stimulate a robust educational economic and community climate that enhances the lives of all its citizens.

Short-Term Goals

1. To provide information to teachers, principals, superintendents and schools on the Framework for 21^st Century Learning. 
2. To identify classroom needs for the adoption of a 21^st Century Learning Framework. 
3. To provide resources to make the incorporation of 21^st Century Skills easy to adapt within the current framework. 
4. To provide 21^st Century Leadership Seminars to administrators in WV.
5. To continue consistent funding for instructional software and tools for classroom applications, which includes funding for on-going subscription costs.
6. Examine possible use of text book funding for software or 21^st Century tools.
7. Update pre-service teacher curriculum by adding a focus on 21^st Century Skills and other K-12 software programs. 

Long-Term Goals

1. To identify requirements for a 21^st Century School Designation that can be shared
    with schools across the state. 

1. To provide the technology assessment and other tools to measure student mastery of 21^st Century Skills.
2. To permit students to demonstrate their proficiency in 21^st Century Skills.
3. To provide technology tools in sufficient quantity and capabilities to support student proficiency in ICT (information and communication technologies) literacy.
4. Investigate state-wide licensing options for savings in software purchases.
